Celtic will make a number of signings if they win the Scottish Premiership title and qualify for the Champions League, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The Lowdown: Hoops in pole position
The Hoops are still basking in the glory of winning 2-1 away to Rangers last weekend, as they pulled six points clear of their bitter rivals.
It means Celtic are now the overriding favourites to wrestle back the league trophy after missing out in 2020/21, with Ange Postecoglou looking to continue his magic against St Johnstone on Saturday.
Building from this position of strength is vital at Parkhead, with new signings something that will surely happen this summer.
The Latest: More signings expected, Ange won’t be scared
Speaking exclusively to Transfer Tavern, O’Rourke says that additions should be expected, with Postecoglou expected to be brave in the transfer market:
“Celtic will be looking to strengthen their squad, especially if they are going to be playing in the Champions League next season, which it obviously looks like they will be if they do go on to win the Scottish Premiership title.
“Postecoglou has shown he’s not afraid to make signings, maybe players people don’t know too much about and those players have paid off so far.”

The Verdict: Not messing around
A league title win would also mean qualification for the Champions League group stage, in what will be a huge test of Celtic’s credentials.
Europe’s biggest club competition is a huge step up from the Scottish Premiership and a few top signings will be needed in order for the Hoops to compete, with O’Rourke believing Ange won’t wait around.
The Aussie has already built a strong side, as highlighted by the current league table, but a few extra sprinklings of magic are needed across the pitch if Celtic are to have a chance of reaching the knockout rounds next season, should they be in the Champions League.
