Watt, along with his former USWNT star wife Kealia, acquired a stake in Burnley as Kompany was guiding them to the Championship title in 2022-23. The highs of that promotion-winning campaign have been countered by relegation out of the Premier League in 2024.

There may be more bad news on the way at Turf Moor, with former Manchester City captain Kompany supposedly ready to swap Lancashire for Munich and an opportunity to work with Harry Kane and Co at Bayern. Watt has responded to those rumours by posting on social media: “People often ask if European football ownership helps fill the adrenaline void from playing…There are definitely days!”
